Larry David Impersonates Health Advocate in Medical Bias Story

8/23/2019

In John Oliver's recent show on Medical Bias, he points out that women, people of color, people from other countries and cultures face an uphill battle when trying to communicate their health care needs, among other challenges (like medications and treatments being primarily tested on men.

This point is further driven home when comedienne Wanda Sykes suggests that people take a white man into the emergency room with you if you want to be 'heard.'  In fact, they created a website with videos of Larry David (of Seinfeld fame) called What's Larry's Problem whatslarrysproblem.com/ to translate a medical problem to health care staff in a way that they understand.

This is pretty much what health advocates do and what my new book will focus on - how to use language to help people understand the care that you want.
